there were only two clinically approved and FDA sanctioned uses for the drug. The first was for the treatment of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), and the second was for short-term use to treat gross obesity.

Come on Senator Darrington. My brother was addicted to meth and destroying his own life when he started dealing to support his own habit. He never committed a crime in his life, not even a misdimeanor driving citation. He was employed at the post office. He's doing a 3 year sentence for trafficking (10 grams) which equals $1,000.00 dollars on the street. So now tax payers will foot the bill of over $30,000 dollars, brand him a "horrible, Dangerous Criminal" as you call it, that needs to be kept away from society for a long time. Get real. He didn't make a dime selling drugs, he used them all. Yet he isn't considered an addict but a trafficker. Excellent people become a shell of who they are because of meth, but does that make them horrible, dangerous, bad, etc...No, it makes them someone who needs help; just like an alcoholic or someone with an eating disorder, or gambling addicstion. Oh yeah what about being addicted to cigerettes, the number one killer out there. An addiction is an addiction. I'm sure you have a few yourself. I doubt your judged by them. My brother needs treatment, rather than wasting his life away in prison. Do something right for once in your life. Your not a judge, what right do you have to gamble with peoples lives, yet you condemn drug dealers and addicts for destroying families and lives. If the shoe fits wear it. Oh by the way no one forces an addict to get high and destroy their lives and their families. They choose it for them selves. I know I used to be one for 20 years and I can't blame the dealer down the street for the mess I made of my life and the lives of my family. No one, no one is responsible but me. I knew drugs were illegal and bad for me but I didn't care! One day you'll wake up realize your no better than the dealer down the street when it comes to destroying families and lives every time someone is sentenced to a mandatory minimum sentence for a first time offense. Shame on you.
